Description

Troponin-I Card, also known as a Troponin-I rapid test or Troponin-I strip, is a medical diagnostic tool used to measure the levels of cardiac troponin I in the blood. Troponin-I is a protein that is released into the bloodstream when there is damage to the heart muscle, such as during a heart attack.

Here’s how a Troponin-I Card test is typically conducted:

  1. Sample collection: A small blood sample is usually collected from a vein in your arm using a needle and syringe. In some cases, a fingerstick blood sample may be used instead.
  2. Test procedure: The Troponin-I Card consists of a strip or cassette with specific chemicals and antibodies embedded on it. A few drops of the collected blood sample are placed on the designated area of the card.
  3. Waiting time: The test requires a specific waiting time, usually a few minutes, for the reaction to occur. During this time, the chemicals and antibodies on the card interact with the troponin-I in the blood sample.
  4. Test result interpretation: After the waiting period, the test result is read. The presence and intensity of a colored line or symbol on the card indicate the level of troponin-I in the blood. The result is usually interpreted as positive (elevated troponin-I level, indicating possible heart muscle damage) or negative (normal troponin-I level).

It’s important to note that Troponin-I Card tests are typically used as an initial screening tool and should be followed up by further medical evaluation and interpretation by a healthcare professional. The test results alone are not sufficient to make a diagnosis; they are used in conjunction with other clinical information and diagnostic tests to assess the overall condition of the patient’s heart.
